N G Bailey delivers first zero-waste dairy for Arla Foods UK

N G Bailey will be responsible for wastewater and effluent treatment and recycling at Arla Foods' £150 million new milk dairy in Aylesbury, which will process and pack up to one billion litres of milk per year.

N G Bailey worked with main contractor, Caddick Construction Ltd (CCL), on the building phase of the development, which incorporates a main dairy and an associated energy centre, plus various ancillary buildings.

This integrated design, build, operating and maintenance contract demonstrates the breadth of capability offered to clients. As well as being responsible for the installation of the mechanical and electrical works - such as boilers, air compressors, ventilation and lighting - N G Bailey will also be responsible for wastewater and effluent treatement and recycling.

Achieving Arla's target of a zero-waste dairy will be achieved by using sustainable technologies during the construction phase, as well as from process technologies - such as heat and materials recovery - and from the use of trenewable energies. The site also aims to send zero waste to landfill.

Alongside the Engineering Division, Off-site Manufacture and IT Services will also have a key role in the dairy's development and, once the dairy is occupied, the Facilities Services team will be responsible for facilities management on the site.
