APPWG meeting threats and opportunities - cyber security and data management in the water industry

Date: 31st January 2017

Location: Committee Room 5, House of Commons

5pm to 6.30pm

This meeting  will focus on cyber security and data management. Cyber security is a growing risk to water companies who are high value targets. The Government has taken measures through the National Cyber Security Programme but what more could be done to raise awareness of the cyber threat in the water industry, assess its cyber vulnerabilities, and mitigate known vulnerabilities in the sector as well as talk about the opportunities it, and improved data management, permits. As a recent BBC report on technical innovation trends stated: “Cybersecurity will undoubtedly be the dominant theme of 2017, as all tech innovations could be undermined by data thefts, fraud and cyber propaganda.”

The APPG will hear from the following:

  • Professor Jacob Tompkins OBE, Managing Director, Waterwise and Head of OFWAT’s Task and Finish group on Resilience
  • David Duke (cyber security) & Reaz Khedarun (Data Protection/GDPR), Gemserv
  • Paul Horton, Chief Executive Officer, Future Water Association

There will then be a Q&A with all MPs, Peers and stakeholders present.

If you wish to attend and have not already RSVP’ed please email .

Please note that you should allow at least 45 minutes if you need to go through security at the Cromwell Green entrance.
