Overview

Water is a major ingredient in many consumer products, from beer, to toothpaste, to a pair of jeans. It’s the most important input to the oil and gas industry, and the tech industry needs vast amounts of it to cool data processing equipment. But climate change is affecting the availability of water businesses need to operate, and that we need to survive.

Investors, shareholders, politicians and consumers therefore want to see companies use it more responsibly. This increased external scrutiny means water now takes a greater share of the boardroom conversation. There is self interest at work too: CEOs know that investing in water management will have a positive impact on the bottom line.

Against this backdrop, the FT Water Summit 2017 brings together industrial water users, investors and policy-makers to discuss the latest thinking in water management and strategy.

Coca-Cola and Nestlé will talk about for-profit models to tackle larger-scale shared water challenges that benefit companies as well as the communities and environments they operate in.

We'll also be asking how CEOs are really beginning to make water their business, and what they want to know from their teams to make sure opportunities are identified and seized.

The CEO Water Mandate and WWF will explore the state-state-of-the-art in context-based water targets, and reveal how you can use this emerging method to better identify opportunities.

You'll hear from institutional investors on their evolving expectations of the companies they are invested in, and plan to invest in.

Felicia Marcus, Chair of the California State Water Resources Control Board will talk about her work with practitioners from across California's water ecosystem to find and implement win/win solutions.

Speakers will highlight project implementation issues, with particular attention paid to what didn’t work, so that you won’t have to make the same mistakes.
