The Impact of UN SDGs on the UK Water Sector

Date: 20th March 2019

Location: Arup, Leeds

Time: 08:30-10:00

In 2015, the United Nations developed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ‘to transform our world, to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all’.  Many UK water companies are now mapping their contribution to wider societal goals by aligning their activities and outcomes with these SDGs.

This briefing will explore

-        What are the 17 SDGs and why are they so important?

-        What impact are they having around the world?

-        What impact are they having in the UK and the UK water sector?

Our two guest speakers are:

Dr Mark Fletcher | Arup
Global Water Business Leader

Mark will introduce the SDGs and explain their importance. He will then review the impact they are having around the world based on both his experience at Arup and from his participation at the Singapore International Water Week 2018, World Water Week 2018 in Stockholm, and the IWA World Water Congress 2018 in Tokyo.

Andy Brown | Anglian Water Services
Head of Sustainability

Andy will review the impact SDGs are having across the UK and relate how Anglian Water and other water companies believe that they can directly contribute to many of the UN’s targets and the successful delivery of these goals. Andy will then give his view on what the future impact could look like.
