The Water Industry Forum (WIF) provides a neutral, independent, not-for-profit stakeholder forum for the UK water sector.  Our primary aim is to facilitate collaboration around the many challenges faced by the sector which we do primarily through a membership scheme. The processing of personal data supports the running of our membership scheme and the forum's activities.

WIF is responsible for the processing of personal information and acts as data controller. Any personal information provided to us will be dealt with in accordance with this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy details the information we may collect from you, the purpose for which we may collect it; how we protect that information that you provide, how to gain access to your information and personal information handling specific to our website.

What information do we collect about you?

We will collect personal information from you during the membership process or when you register for events, speak at events, register on our mailing list, provide feedback, participate in surveys and respond to any queries or requests we may have from time to time from you.  The personal information will include company name, job title and contact details (ie. business postal address, business email address and telephone number). We also record event attendance and general correspondence.

WIF believes that individuals who either belong to an organisation which is a WIF member, or have joined our mailing list, would expect us to hold this data in order to carry out our primary aim.  WIF cannot fulfil its primary aim without processing this non-sensitive personal data.

We may also keep a record of those parts of the WIF website you use most often to enable us to monitor, support and develop our service and to know which parts are of most interest to you.

How will we use the information about you?

We will use the personal information supplied by you for the running of our membership scheme and the forum's activities.  We may also use your personal information to contact you for your views on our services and events, to notify you about important changes or developments to our services; provide you with newsletters and to inform you of other water sector activities that we believe would be of interest to you. We will not share personal information with another person or organisation except:

  • In the form of event delegate lists (name, role, organisation only) shared with other delegates and event co-organisers
  • Presentation slides on our website which include speaker contact details
  • Where personal contact details are included in our website members directory
  • Using cloud-based applications to provide our services (eg. Member Registration, Event Registration, CRM database and mass mailing services)
  • When we are required to supply the information in order to comply with the law or the requirements of a regulatory authority.

The membership process includes publication of member’s data on our website in the form of a directory. When you submit data to the directory, the information will be in the public domain. WIF accepts no responsibility for how the data within the directory is used by other directory members or by members of the public. How we protect your personal information

We take the protection of your personal information very seriously.  We have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information collected. We believe that sufficient safeguards are in place to protect both the individual and the data.  All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers.

Access to your personal information and correction

We want to make sure that your personal information is accurate and up to date. You have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you. You may also ask us to correct or remove incorrect information.

If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, or would like to amend or remove incorrect information, please email us at info@waterindustryforum.com.  When we are satisfied as to your identity we will send you, within 30 days, a copy of the personal information we hold.
