Ofwat Consultation for Business Retail Market Monitoring Framework

From April 2017, more than 1.2 million businesses and other eligible non-household customers in England will be able to choose who supplies their water and wastewater retail services.

Introducing competition for the business retail market is the biggest change to the water sector since its privatisation in 1989. This change will create the biggest competitive water retail market in the world. The Government foresees that this competitive market will help to reduce prices, improve water efficiency, encourage innovation and improve customer service.

Ofwat is asking for views on the planned monitoring framework which will be put in place to ensure that the market is competitive and efficient. The consultation also invites discussion on the form of intervention that may be taken, based on the outcome of the monitoring process.

The consultation launched last week focuses on eight key questions. The closing date is 10 February 2017. Click here for link to respond.
