Update on the Proposal to Merge British Water and the Water Industry Forum

Following our communication in May about the proposed merger of the Water Industry Forum and British Water, I wanted to update you on the feedback received from members and next steps.

I am very pleased to report that although the volume of formal responses received via the online feedback form was small, all respondents were in favour of the proposal. This was also reflected in informal feedback received by both organisations. Our conclusion, therefore, from the feedback received and from informal conversations, is that there is clear support for the merger proposal.

As a result, on June 28 the Boards of both British Water and the Water Industry Forum reaffirmed their recommendation to merge and move forward together. The constitution of British Water requires that a formal merger resolution be approved by its members attending its AGM, which takes place on 15 July 21.

Subject to the resolution being passed, both Boards will prepare detailed merger plans and agree a timetable leading to the merger itself later this year. I will of course keep you updated and anticipate contacting you again with more information in early autumn.

For more details about the background to our proposed merger with British Water, take a look at our summary proposal document.

In the meantime, if you have any additional questions about the merger, please email mergerenquiries@waterindustryforum.com.
